Grand Ole Opry Line-Up 7/2 & 7/3

The Grand Ole Opry has posted this weekend's line-ups and there have already been changes. In the original line-up, Jimmy Dickens was scheduled for both Friday and Saturday night and he is now off the schedule. That is two weekends in a row. Additionally, Charlie Louvin has cancelled for Friday night.

Following the recent pattern for the Opry, there is one show on Friday night and one show on Saturday night, both at the Ryman Auditorium. Among the featured artists this weekend, Emmylou Harris is scheduled for both nights and Wynonna is scheduled for Saturday night. Kathy Mattea is set for Friday night, as she continues her string of recent Opry appearances.

Mandy Barnett is scheduled for Saturday night and this has become an Opry tradition in recent years: having Mandy scheduled on the Saturday night show on the July 4th weekend. Usually, she will start the show with the National Anthem and possibly sing, "God Bless America."

Here are the line-ups:

Friday July 2
7:00: John Conlee(host); Riders In The Sky; Emily West
7:30: Mike Snider(host); Jean Shepard; Kathy Mattea

Finally, the host of the Ernest Tubb Midnight Jamboree will be George Hamilton IV. As a reminder, the show will be taped lived at the record shop at 10:00pm and will be broadcast on tape next Saturday night at midnight. This week at midnight on WSM, the Ernest Tubb Midnight Jamboree will be a rebroadcast of an archive show that was hosted by Ernest Tubb. It should be a great trip back in memory lane.

  1. Unfortunately, Charlie Louvin has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He is to have surgery soon. Obviously, that isn't good news. However, I also know of people--Justice Ruth Ginsburg on the Supreme Court is a great example--who have been diagnosed with it, had surgery and treatment, and been just fine. So, here's hoping that's the case with Charlie Louvin.

  2. Thanks for passing along the information. I also saw the postings regarding Charlie and I am glad that you posted it.

You always hope for the best, but at age 82, it is going to be tough for Charlie. Hopefully, they caught it early like they did with Justice Ginsburg and Charlie will be with us for a while longer.

  3. If talent and orneriness count, Charlie will beat it!

  4. You mentioned this week's Ernest Tubb Midnight Jamboree. About a year ago, the midnight show featured a lot of clips from old Midnight Jamborees from the 70's and early 80's that featured performanced by Ernest Tubb, Justin Tubb, Boxcar Willie, Carl and Pearl Butler and even Marty Robbins. Really brought back a lot of memories for me. That broadcast is still archived on the record shop web site (www.ernesttubb.com).

Somewhere in my collection are some MJ show notes in E.T.'s own handwriting that were given to me by David McCormick back in the early 80's...the records that were featured were always typed in advance but the running program and guests were often written in at the last minute. I really need to dig those out.
