Grand Ole Opry Line Up 4/22 & 4/23

The Grand Ole Opry has posted the line ups for this weekend's shows. The Opry is back to just one show on Saturday night, and based on the attendance at last week's 2nd show, I can see why. Unless the line up is at an "A" level or if there is a good advance sale for the 1st show, it just does not make any sense in the world to go with 2 show.

Looking at this week's shows, they are pretty good, especially on Saturday night. The show that night features the return of Martina McBride to the Opry stage, along with Pam Tillis, Marty Stuart and Ricky Skaggs. Friday night's show features 15 artists, including Opry member Josh Turner, along with Paul Williams, Randy Montana and Thompson Square.

  1. For those who did not listen to the Opry last night, and even for those who did, there were changes in the Opry line up. Pam Tillis was not there as advertised. Mike Snider took her spot as the host for the segment and Connie Smith moved from her slot into the 2nd position on the 3rd segment.

George Hamilton IV was moved as the first guest on Ricky Skagg's segment, to the last guest on that segment. He led a group sing of his song, "I'm Using My Bible For A Roadmap." The group included Ricky, The Whites and Jim Ed Brown. It sounded great.

While Jim Ed was singing "Three Bells", it sounded like there was some type of microphone problem as you could hear a female voice talking a few times. Not sure if it was heard in the Opry House or just over the radio.

Jimmy Dickens sounded great again. Maybe, just maybe, he is over his voice problems. I sure hope so. Marty Stuart was excellent, as always, as was Martina McBride.

I am not too sure about Danny Gokey. I know he is somewhat popular, it is just that I am not sure about him. The other non-Opry member on last night was Jake Owen. He has been on the Opry several times and was fine.

As you would expect, many of the artists had comments to the audience about Easter and several sang Easter, or religious themed songs, as you would expect.

Overall, it sounded like a pretty good show.

  2. I also listened and will echo all you say here. I wasn't overly impressed with the two guests, though Owen was ok. It was nice to hear Marty Stuart do an instrumental and even talk with his band members. We don't have enough of that any more.
