Grand Ole Opry Line Up 5/6 & 5/7

The Grand Ole Opry has posted the line up for this weekends shows. There will be one show on Friday Night and on show on Saturday night. Friday night's show features non-Opry members John Anderson, Neal McCoy and Lee Brice, along with a number of Opry members.

Saturday night features non-Opry members Holly Williams, LoCash Cowboys and Aaron Tippin, along with Opry members Larry Gatlin and his brothers.

Jimmy Dickens is scheduled for both nights. He missed both shows last weekend due to an illness, but was on the Tuesday Night Opry and sounded pretty good.

Finally, if you don't know who the LoCash Cowboys are, they are 2 guys, who have a hard country sound to them. Looking at their website and listening to the music, they are not your traditional country act. This will be their first Opry appearance, and they will probably join the long line of those who don't make a 2nd one.

Here are the line ups with one slot to fill on Friday night:

Friday May 6

7:30: Jimmy Dickens (host); Jesse McReynolds; Neal McCoy

8:15: Riders In The Sky (host); Del McCoury Band

  1. Just a couple of quick thoughts after listening to parts of the Opry last night. First, Larry Gatlin is an outstanding segment host and they really need to work at getting him to do more Friday and Saturday shows. He has such a great personality, has fun with the audience and Mike Terry or Eddie, and of course, sings well. He is just a pleasure to listen to.

Sorry to say that the same cannot be said any more for Stu Phillips. Last night he commented on the fact that he just got our of the hospital, but his voice just sounded aweful!! And I really hate to say that about one of the Opry's senior members. He did a ballad last night and it just didn't work for him. His voice has been sounding bad for about the last six months and I know he is only on one show each month, but maybe he should be thinking about retiring, or at least taking a break until he is sounded better.

Finally, I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised after listing to the LoCash Cowboys last night. This duo sounded really good and had a good country sound to them. It was not what I had heard on their website. They were better than I thought they would be.

  2. Byron, I echo all that you say here. Admittedly, Stu has sounded scratchy for a while, but he really should have taken last night off. And Gatlin has more fun with the audience--and vice versa--than anybody I can think of since Marty Robbins.
