Tuesday Night Opry 8/28

A very nice line-up for this week's Tuesday Night Opry:

7:00: Jeannie Seely; Del McCoury Band
7:30: Mandy Barnett; Charles Esten
Intermission
8:15: Chris Janson; Darius Rucker; Rascal Flatts

5 Opry members and 2 who probably should be based on the number of guest appearances they have made.

  1. Chris Janson is the newest member, and I fully expect Darius Rucker to have to ask him where to find the stage, the dressing room, the mailboxes ....

  2. He could also ask Mandy Barnett and.or Charles Esten, who for some reason aren't members.

  3. Don’t take pictures of Darius or look at him (OldtimeOpry)

    1. Tongue in cheek comment bc we were told NOT to take Darius Rucker's photo at a Fan Club Breakfast this year at CMA Music Fest (oldtimeopry)

  4. Rascal Flatts has cancelled for tonight. Said it was due to unforeseen circumstances. Tough night as Brad Paisley had also been scheduled but he pulled out much earlier.

  5. Byron, has Rascal Flatts performed on any of the Friday or Saturday night shows over the last five or so years? It seems like they are only ever on the Tuesday shows. On that note, it seems that Del McCoury has gone to playing almost exclusively Tuesdays. Any idea why that might be the case?

    1. I’ve noticed that on Del as well. I suspect with most of the Bluegrass festivals on weekends, that has something to do with it.

  6. Chris, I would have to check, but you are probably right. I know that they have not done a weekend show in recent memory, and much like Del McCoury, which David referred to, my guess is that they are out on the road most weekends.

In addition to those two, there are others that you could add to the list of doing mostly weeknight shows including Darius and Charlie Daniels. But as to

  8. This was a very, very fast check, but the last time I can see Rascal Flatts listed on a weekend show was Friday June 6, 2014. But I will say that they seem to be averaging around 7 to 8 shows each year since joining.

  9. Thanks for checking, Byron. Yes, Rascal Flatts does seem to be at least trying to meet the 10 show commitment even if it is only on weeknights. I guess I can't blame the artists. They can meet their Opry appearance requirement by appearing early in the week and then be able to travel for shows on the weekend. And, with the devaluing of the weekend shows overall, I guess there isn't much of an incentive to play on the weekend when a Tuesday is just as valued (in the eyes of management, at least). I can't fault the artists for taking that approach, especially newer artists who don't really know and/or appreciate the history of the show.
