Mid-Week Opry Shows

Here are the lineups for the Grand Ole Opry mid-week shows for this week:

Monday October 8
Host: Darius Rucker
Appearing: Chris Young; Travis Tritt; Ronnie Milsap; Cam; Brett Eldredge; Boyz II Men; Lukas Nelson; LeAnn Rimes; Leela James; Charlie Wilson; Allen Stone

This show is a "Salute to Ray Charles" and while it is not an official Opry show (at least in my book), it is Opry sponsored. It is supposed to highlight Ray's contributions to country music and is being taped for a PBS special that will air in November. Darius Rucker is the host of the show. While a number of the artists are country oriented, including a group of Opry members, some of the artists are not so it will be interesting to see how the show plays out. And yes, in my opinion, Ray did make some contributions to country music that should be recognized.

Tuesday Night Opry October 9
7:00: Connie Smith; Wade Hayes
7:30: Morgan Evans; Restless Heart
Intermission
8:15: Abby Anderson; William Michael Morgan
8:45: Rodney Atkins; Steven Curtis Chapman

Opry Country Classics October 11
Host: Larry Gatlin
Spotlight Artist: Ricky Skaggs
Also Appearing: The Gatlin Brothers; Mandy Barnett; Charlie McCoy; Chuck Mead; Don Schlitz; Jeannie Seely

This is a very nice line-up for the classic show and it is being advertised as a tribute to the newly elected members of the Country Music Hall of Fame, Ricky Skaggs, Dottie West and Johnny Gimble, all of whom will be formally inducted later in October.

I will be in Nashville for the upcoming birthday weekend and will be attending the classics show on Thursday night. Looking forward to a great show.

  2. Yes, Thursday's Country Classic looks like a really good show. Enjoy. Hope the Anniversary weekend is good for you - we stopped at the 90th (and we so loved going to Nashville). Looking forward to your reviews!

  3. Every performer on the Classic show would be a great member of the 'Opry.

  4. Does anyone know why for the last few weeks SiriusXM has played the Tuesday Night Opry instead of the Friday Night Opry?

    1. SiriusXM has changed the programming and they are now airing the Tuesday Night Opry, and no longer airing the Friday Night Opry. I guess in their opinion, and the Opry's, that the Tuesday night show is a better show than the Friday night show. And on many weeks, they are correct.

    2. Thanks for the info, although I will miss the Friday Night Opry because at least you don't have to suffer through at least every other act being a non Opry member for 15 minutes at time. When I first got Satellite Radio many moons ago we actually got WSM all the time on its own channel.

    3. What does that say about the Opry's opinion and dedication to the Friday show......or maybe even the Saturday show? I don't get to pay much attention the week night shows but it seems, and logically so, that bigger current names appear on those shows.

Maybe there would not have been a purge in '64 had they had a mid week show they could have worked to help keep their 26 show commitment!

That's not too negative on my part is it? :)

  5. Enjoy the anniversary weekend. While you're there, it would be fun to find out why Darius Rucker was free Monday night but not Tuesday night!
