A friend of mine was telling me that he was there on Friday. He got there an hour and half early. He was looking for her new Christmas cd and couldn't find it, so he got the vinyl( which they didn't have much of). While at the register he heard them say, we've been waiting for the shipment all day. He thought you have a huge star like her and then don't have in stock what she's coming to promote. Doesn't sound good for the ET record shop. Her sheer talent, along with her versatility, would be great for the Opry. As many have suggested, Chris Jansen is another "no-brainer" for Opry membership. To help add to bluegrass music, it seems that Rhonda Vincent would be a logical choice. Also, she is another artist with versatility.Bruce Ligonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08529043319979050549noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6344993590139159352.post-74014120275272186692016-11-25T18:21:21.367-05:002016-11-25T18:21:21.367-05:00Double ditto Suzy Bogguss.

She would make a great member, IMO.

Regarding the 1955 lineup, the correct titles of Jim Reeves' songs are "Yonder Comes a Sucker" and "I've Lived a Lot in My Time." And I know they sponsored Roy Acuff, but their name is "Royal Crown Cola."

Thank you so much, Byron, for keeping us informed about what's going on at the Opry, as well as preserving its rich history!

Rich
Seattle, WAAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6344993590139159352.post-63023997830639184462016-11-24T23:41:04.579-05:002016-11-24T23:41:04.579-05:00Byron: thanks for the confirmation on my notes. On the 2nd show, he was scheduled to host the 10:45 segment and was replaced by John Conlee. For the 2nd show, John Conlee was orginially scheduled for the 10:30 segment hosted Grandpa Jones, with Jean Shepard. However, since John was moved to host Jimmy's segment, it was just Grandpa and Jean in that 10:15 slot.

And yes, Wilma Lee Cooper was also scheduled for Porter's second show, but cancelled.

Jim, I don't list John Conlee actually performing on Grandpa's segment on the 2nd show, but the segment he hosted followed that one. Perhaps that is where the confusion was. I...I have some interesting notes on the 1991 show. I must have got the lineup from the phone or over the radio because I show a couple of folks that were to appear that didn't which agrees with Byron's list.

First, Wilma Lee Cooper was scheduled to be on Porter's portion on the second show. Second, Jimmy Dickens was to be on with Roy Acuff on the first show and was to host the portion on the second show that John Conlee hosted. My notes say that Jimmy had the flue. I also show that John Conlee appeared on Grandpa's portion of the second show along with Jeans Shepard. Guess I could be wrong on that but I made a specific note about it.

Colorado Country Morning that Hank Snow opened his second show with is one of my favorite later songs he did. It was from his 1975 LP Easy to Love. He had opened the second show two weeks prior on November 9th with it and said it was his first time to ever do it on the Opry. That inspired me to write to Mr. Snow, my one and only time, and unfortunately I did not get a response.

I know that many have said that this era of the Opry had become stale and predictable but for me being in my early 20's it was a wonderful and learning time to listen to what was left of the golden era of the Opry!

Jim
Knightsville, INAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6344993590139159352.post-87686861333449381162016-11-24T10:59:16.231-05:002016-11-24T10:59:16.231-05:00Happy Thanksgiving to all of the Fayfare folk, inc...Happy Thanksgiving to all of the Fayfare folk, including our leader, and to Glen Thompson also a happy birthday!Michaelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01998867386294693956noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6344993590139159352.post-29927410610027088942016-11-24T09:55:04.101-05:002016-11-24T09:55:04.101-05:00Kacey Musgraves had a show at the Ernest Tubb Reco...Kacey Musgraves had a show at the Ernest Tubb Record Shop prior to last Friday Night's Opry. Only a few lucky folks could squeeze in.
And when I went to the store Saturday AM, I was very pleasantly surprised at the much improved appearance as well as the much improved inventory of products.
Since they closed the store out by the 'Opry, the downtown store has improved dramatically in my opinion.
Hope they can make it. It's very important to the overall health of the 'Opry and the downtown Nashville scene.
Also saw Hoot Hester's daughter Rachel Hester with her band perform at Robert's Western World.
