What I find sad is that the Opry never invited them back for an "old timers night," the only way they got back to the Opry stage was by entering a contest to be there.

Is Nell Poe still with us? ...Thanks for posting the information on Ruth Poe.

As mentioned, the Poe Sisters, Nell and Ruth, joined the Grand Ole Opry in June 1944. George D. Hay described them as "two very charming country girls whose parents operate a farm near their home town of Big Creek, Mississippi." They were also described as the "female Delmore Brothers." Nell was born in 1922 and Ruth in 1924. They spent time as part of Ernest Tubb's touring group. Ruth played the mandolin and when they were part of the Opry, she played one that was loaned to her by Bill Monroe. Ruth married in 1945 and they left the Opry in August 1946. The Poe Sisters made no recordings during their time together, however some of the older Grand Ole Opry audio clips that are around do feature them and in 1989 and album was released in Germany that was titled, "Early Stars of the Grand Ole Opry."Byronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07610237116677181633noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6344993590139159352.post-62121158570818422672015-05-04T15:20:55.004-04:002015-05-04T15:20:55.004-04:00Ruth Poe, surviving members of the Poe Sisters who...Ruth Poe, surviving members of the Poe Sisters who were members of the Opry and toured with Ernest Tubb from 1944-46 has passed away. I tried to find an address to write Ruth several years ago but couldn't get it... Ruth may very well have been the oldest living former member, pre-dating even Jimmy Dickens by four years... Interesting video clip in this story from the Tennessean about a visit to the Opry when they won the contest to name Porter's all-girl band: http://www.tennessean.com/story/entertainment/music/2015/05/04/ruth-poe-weir-opry-member-dies/26871281/ (oldtimeopry)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6344993590139159352.post-20245403779164732572015-05-03T22:31:49.873-04:002015-05-03T22:31:49.873-04:00http://etrecordshop.com/http://etrecordshop.com/Kylenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6344993590139159352.post-84156170237352833242015-05-03T21:03:45.218-04:002015-05-03T21:03:45.218-04:00Fred, Bismarck:

I know she has been missing so far this year, just having a new baby, but I would expect her back at the Opry soon, possibly during CMA week when in the past, she has appeared.

In looking at the line-up for the Tuesday Night Opry and Opry Country Classics, I notice Jim Ed Brown has been taken off. He had previously been announced for both shows.

It is nice to see Amber Digby and Charlie Daniels set for the classics show this week. Am I a big fan? No. But she's done right by the Opry, and that's more than I can say for the majority of everyone else who's joined in the last 25 years.Michaelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01998867386294693956noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6344993590139159352.post-11752001768724165102015-05-02T11:32:16.734-04:002015-05-02T11:32:16.734-04:00Great job, Byron, but Im afraid you missed an impo...Great job, Byron, but Im afraid you missed an important date: May 1, 1929-the birthday of Sonny James.

Also, the Ernest Tubb record shop website is back online for now, announcing the mindight
jamboree to return June 6. kylenoreply@blogger.com
