Tuesday Night Opry 5/16 & Opry Country Classics 5/18

Here is the line-up for the Tuesday Night Opry, May 16:

7:00: Larry Gatlin; The Whites
7:30: Jamie Lynn Spears; Montgomery Gentry
Intermission
8:15: Maddie & Tae; Lee Brice
8:45: Ricky Skaggs

Here is the line-up for Opry Country Classics, May 18:

Host: Larry Gatlin
Spotlight Artist: Craig Morgan
Also Appearing: The Gatlin Brothers; Shenandoah; Mike Snider; Emily West

Very unusual to see Mike Snider on the Opry Country Classics show. I would have to look at the records, but this might be his first appearance on Thursday night; if not his first, then it has been a few years since he has been on.

  1. Ricky Skaggs said during an interview yesterday at the Hall of Fame he will be celebrating his 35th Opry anniversary this week on the Tuesday night Opry (oldtimeopry)

  2. Is it just me or does it seem Ricky has been making more appearances on the Opry since Pete has been gone? And did anyone else find it hypocritical that Brad Paisley said a couple of weeks ago on the Opry that he plays the Opry "about once a month?"

  3. Yes, Ricky has been on more but I have also noticed that Vince has been on much less. I know that Vince is pretty busy with various projects, but is lack of attendance has been noticeable.

As to Brad's comment, maybe he forgot that each month generally has only around 30 days!!! Seriously, he does seem to be coming around a little more often. Let's see how it goes in the future.

  4. Does anyone think that some of the Opry members who haven't been on much in recent years are going to begin to slowly appear again?

    1. Bruce, that will be interesting to see. With Sally Williams replacing Pete Fisher as the Opry's general manager, I know I will be watching to see what members come back and which ones do not. Nice to see Brad Paisley making a few appearances, along with Blake Shelton and Old Crow. Even Rascal Flatts, Little Big Town and Keith Urban have made appearances.

  5. Still waiting for that Bruce, Billy Yates, Stonewall Jackson, Teea Goans? And now, Larry Gatlin and Vince Gill seems to turn their backs from the opry...

  6. Manuel, I'm confused about your comment. Billy Yates and Teea Goans are not Opry members. Regarding Larry Gatlin, he certainly hasn't turned his back on the Opry in the last few years. He's appeared at least twice a month (probably more) already this year.

  7. But some good singers are almost never again at the schedule...oh yes, Larry was a lot at the Opry, but this year it seems to become a lot different. Maybe just a fear of me, because I like him much. Vince's last time at the schedule was December 16th las year.

    1. Manuel, I appreciate your comments and thanks. Just to make a minor correction, Vince has been on the 3 times this year: January 6; February 24 and February 25. I think between the hockey games, touring, and other charitable appearances, he has been pretty busy. I expect him to be back at the Opry soon.

  8. It would be good to see Stonewall and more of Ray Pillow. Does anyone know about Jan Howard or Stu Phillips? Would (could) they perform again? [That question is not well worded?] Who else could we see, that has not been performing on the Opry on any kind of regular basis?

  9. I think it is safe to say that Stu Phillips is now retired from performing. What will be interesting is that June 1st is Stu's 50th anniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry. My guess is that he will make an appearance, not sure he will perform or not. While Stu was not one of the Opry's biggest stars, he always did a fine job with a ballad.

As to Jan Howard, she is out and about and looks pretty good, but much like Stu, I think she has pretty much retired from performing also.

Stonewall Jackson's last appearance was in November for his 60th, and he sounded pretty good. He hasn't been back since. Regarding Ray, I just think he is fine doing the Opry every once in a while.
