Bill Cody

I know many have been wondering about Bill Cody since he took a medical leave from WSM and the Opry. The following was posted on Facebook by his daughter earlier today:

Friends. Prayer warriors. I believe in the power of prayer and my daddy needs prayers.

A little over 3 weeks ago he was admitted to the ICU in heart failure and kidney failure. After weeks of being on a roller coaster of emotions, tests, dialysis, medications, steps forwards and steps backwards, it was determined earlier this week that his only option for survival would be a double transplant, heart and kidney.

Many prayers have been prayed this week that he would pass all necessary tests to qualify for the transplant list. And those prayers were answered.

Last night, his heart strength and ability to pump blood took a downward spiral and we got a call from his doctor early this morning that they were having to intubate him to put him on ECMO (a machine that does the hearts job for him).

This is what we need prayers for.

1) pray that he will not experience any of the risks that come along with ECMO - stroke, blood clots, infection.

2) pray that the next 48 hours on ECMO gives his body time to rest and gain strength. THIS is his biggest hurdle for transplant qualification right now. He has to gain strength.

3) pray that the transplant team that meets on Tuesdays will find him a candidate for transplant and get him put on the list.

We need a miracle and we know God is able. Please, if you’re able, stop and pray for these things. Our family can’t thank you enough. We love you all.

As someone who has met Bill, I can tell you that he loves working at WSM and announcing at the Opry. He has been missed and it sounds like he has a tough road ahead of him. Here is hoping that he gets the surgery that is needed and that he is strong enough for that surgery and recovery.

And yes, we are praying and thinking of Bill.

  1. I have a few radio heroes in my life, and Bill Cody is at the top of my list. He has had several health issues the last few years, and this comes as no real surprise to me. Pray hard everybody. Bill needs it, and he certainly deserves it.
Thanks Byron for the news, and thanks to his family for letting all of us know.

  3. Sending my thoughts and healing prayers to Bill and his family and all the very best to his medical team helping them all through this extremely difficult time. I am a big fan of Bill and his work; I have really missed him on the Opry Country Classics show.

  4. an observation along with my thoughts and prayers. It’s been amazing to see the amount of country music artists and country music devoted Facebook pages that have lifted up wild Bill as Ronnie Milsap calls him. It’s easy to assume that the general public and even people in the music industry don’t pay any attention to WSM and don’t really know much about the people who work the Opry. I’m really glad to see that, that is not the case. I think Bill is the last of a breed of disc jockey. And as a singer myself, it has always been one of my dreams to stand in that circle just once and have either he or Eddie Stubbs say my name. Get better wild Bill. Ez

    1. I totally agree with you Ez ... It's like Hannah Harper and John Foster and I heard on the Opry that Jordan McCullough who was runner-up to Hannah will be making his Opry debut in a couple of weeks and I think it may have been this morning another Idol contestant Kindal Inskeep will be making her Opry debut, after being invited by Kelly Sutton ... so we don't think that there are eyes and ears everywhere with these shows? We should never underestimate just how much ... record labels are always looking for, as Vince Gill sang, "The Next Big Thing."

Believe this or not ... I have WSM and the Opry Warm-Up show on and they are playing Hannah Harper singing her huge hit "String Cheese." A true story of hers that she wrote about her children. Carrie Underwood was crying while Hannah was signing this song.

      Enjoy the shows everyone.
