  1. That Tuesday lineup is pop-country heavy. I know the conventional wisdom is that the reason to pander to pop country is because it supposedly is what draws. Well, last night in New Orleans, George Strait and Chris Stapleton drew 53,000 people for actual country music. It's too bad the Opry is too out of touch to know who they are.

  2. Unsure about Stapleton, but I’m certain the Opry would have taken an interest in George Strait over 30 years ago, If he had an interest. From the conception of the Opry there have always been acts “too big” for the show. Heavy touring schedules kept some artists from even considering Opry membership. Other than Strait, others included, Merle Haggard, Conway Twitty, Buck Owens, Brenda Lee, Roger Miller and Kenny Rogers. Some artists such as Eddy Arnold, Don Williams, Webb Pierce, Jim Reeves, Carl Smith and Sonny James, were members and left because their stardom and touring outgrew the Opry attendance requirements. I guess Strait could have been a Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire or Travis Tritt, and seldom appear. But I think it’s safe to say the Opry would welcome with open arms George Strait if he truly wanted to be there.

  4. Ya, got that message when I called earlier today to check on an update about the Roy Acuff house.

What they told me today is that you can get tickets at the ticket office for the Acuff house anytime and the tours are self guided at any time after 9:00am. They said on Tuesday June 5th, it would probably be open until 9:00pm or so because Carrie Underwood is doing the OPry and both shows are sold out.

Just thought I'd pass this along since it is different than what I was told and reported several days ago.
