Tuesday Night Opry 11/29 & Opry Country Christmas 12/1

A very nice Tuesday Night Opry this week that will feature Grand Ole Opry members Vince Gill, Jamey Johnson, Dailey & Vincent and Trace Adkins. While Trace has not made as many Opry appearances as he has in the past, Jamey Johnson has certainly filled the void. Since his Opry induction, Jamey has continued to show why he as a good choice to become a member of the Opry. As he stated one night at the Opry, he was committed to supporting the show and would be appearing regularly.

Also appearing on Tuesday night will be comedian Gary Mule Deer, who was one of the acts on the televised Opry portion last Saturday night. He will be joined by Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers, Erin Kinsey, and making his Opry debut, Jack Schneider.

Tuesday November 29
7:00: Dailey & Vincent, Erin Kinsey, Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers, Jamey Johnson
Intermission
8:15: Gary Mule Deer, Jack Schnieder, Vince Gill, Trace Adkins

This past weekend my wife and I attended the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday night, and Opry Country Christmas on Sunday evening. On Thursday night, the 2nd in the series of Opry Country Christmas shows will be taking place, again hosted by Larry Gatlin. Also scheduled to appear are the Gatlin Brothers, Mandy Barnett, Charlie McCoy and Riders In The Sky. Those are the artists that will be appearing on each of the eight shows on the schedule. Each show will also feature two additional acts, one of which will be the Spotlight Artist and will close the show. The Spotlight Artist on Thursday night will be Opry member Lauren Alaina, while the additional act will be Rhonda Vincent.

Opry Country Christmas Thursday December 1
Host: Larry Gatlin
Spotlight Artist: Lauren Alaina
Also Appearing: The Gatlin Brothers, Riders In The Sky, Mandy Barnett, Charlie McCoy, Rhonda Vincent

For those who were unable to listen on WSM, it was a wonderful show. The Opry stage was decorated with a number of Christmas trees and there was Christmas garland across the various dividers and microphones, with the backdrop featuring Christmas colors. All of the artists were dressed in some sort of holiday attire. In addition to the regulars, Sunday featured Kathy Mattea and Steve Wariner. It was a nice mixture of holiday favorites, both old and new.

Bill Cody was the announcer and while the set changes were taking place, Bill did offer a lot of Christmas trivia and took the time to talk to a few of the artists. It was a lot of fun, and I would recommend the show to anyone. And yes, Santa did make an appearance and he played a pretty mean guitar!!!

  1. The entire Saturday night's Grand Ole Opry celebrating Marty Stuart's 30 years of Opry membership was just great. The three key people in Marty's life who have shaped him as a singer and entertainer are Lester Flatt, Johnny Cash and Connie Smith, so all type's of country music were represented. Though I wonder why Marty and Connie didn't get to sing a duet, interesting she was on the first hour of the show instead. It is disappointing Marty has been to the Opry once this year, while I know he has a lot going on with the opening of the Ellis Theater and soon his museum, touring, recording, songwriting, being a husband, son and brother, I know he can only get just so much done but he is also a very popular, long standing Opry member and I hope 2023 sees him on the stage a more times than once.

Marty's jacket was beautiful and Handsome's jacket blinded me with the many sparkles that were on it. There cannot be too many rhinestones or sequins on country couture for me, the sparklier the better. Always reminds me of those who wore the Nudie suits - Hank Sr., Webb Pierce, Porter Wagoner, and whomever made Dolly and Reba's stage wear. I am very happy to see more and more artists adding sparkles to their stage wear and I am happy that the turned around ball-cap and chains are leaving. Ugh, what an awful look.

Del McCoury and his band are STILL outstanding
Gary Mule Deer - so happy so see his stand-up instead of hearing it
his facial expressions were just as funny
Jontavious Willis was just great - more please!

Unfortunately, I did not hear Sunday's Opry Christmas show until Steve Wariner's performance. I read that it would be aired on WSM, but I think where it went wrong, I was on the WSMonline radio on my computer, not my Smartphone, but then the radio stopped playing, which has been a REAL issue these last couple of weeks) and I just clicked on it again and I started to hear Tracy Lawrence and Mark Chesnutt ... I think what one needs to do is click out of the radio altogether then go back in starting all over. What I believe I did was start Tracy's radio program over again or it started at some part of it again. Therefore, I missed hearing the rest of the show.

It sounds like you and Casey had a wonderful time at both Opry shows. Thank you for posting such great pictures on FB, Byron.

Tonight is stacking up to be a great Tuesday Night Opry ... Jamey Johnson! Yah! I knew he would be a great Opry member, so happy the Opry also knew by inviting him to the Opry family. He finally had his backing band a week or so ago ... they were all just so, so good. More please!! Dailey and Vincent, outstanding as always and I really do like Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers, always so, so good. I am digging all the bluegrass music.

Vince Gill in the second to last segment? He usually gets the nod to close out the show. Gary Mule Deer on again ... hmmm, he is the only comedian I really like out of all comedians the Opry has on the stage. I laughed when I saw his hair standing much taller than Marty's! They're cousins alright! He is so funny.

Also, the Thursday Night show I will be listening to. Thank you for the providing the line-up, Byron.

I wish someone would tell Natalie Stovall to pull back on the dramatics when she is talking about or to an artist ~ ugh. Where is Nan Kelley?

Enjoy this week of Opry shows everyone ~

    1. Jeanene, when I was reading your wonderful comment, and the mention of Marty and his rhinestones and sparkles, it made me think of something that Casey said after the show that night, and something I really didn't pay attention to, which was that all of the artists that night wore a jacket that sparkled or had a bit of rhinestone on it. Probably in tribute to Marty. Thinking back, Del McCoury had a sparkly jacket on, which in his case was a bit unusual as he is usually in a plain suit. I seem to remember that Gary Mule Deer and Don Schlitz had sparkles on their jackets also. Of course, Riders In The Sky certainly did, as did Connie.

    2. Casey knows her sparkles Byron. She is right, they all had 'em going on Saturday night. And you are correct, I never have seen Del McCoury wearing a jacket with a sparkle on it. When I think bluegrass music, I don't think sparkles and yet we have Rhonda Vincent who wears tons of them, so good for her! While Marty doesn't wear his sparkly Manuel jackets much anymore, I have noticed the black jackets he has had for a while, sparkles have been added. And all I am going to say is Handsome's jacket was just beautiful.

  2. Jeanene, I would guess there's something out of whack with your computer internet setup or Internet Service Provider somewhere. I was having the same problem until I switched from Comcast to AT&T fiber.
Loved your commentary on the various shows! Opry is suddenly doing better in my view.

    1. Nat, interesting you should say something about the possibility of something out of whack with my computer internet setup (I have AT&T internet service but not fiber, Comcast is a bit out of financial reach for me.) I have had these issues for a long while, even my Android has been cutting in out with the player. Off/on, off/on ... but this just started in the last couple of weeks & Saturday night, the first hour of the show was so bad cutting in/out I missed all of Jason Crabb & . There are times when my desktop "buffers" and sometimes so much so, that I just turn it off telling myself I will watch the live stream the next day.

I purchased a Vizio LED TV earlier this Spring, had it hooked up, the thing didn't want to stay ON. It kept going off, kept turning it on ... it was returned three days later.

Fast forward to this past weekend. I purchased a TCL TV last month, it got hooked up over the weekend. Great picture, I power it off, in 10/15 minutes it decides to turn itself back on, you have no idea how many times. So I pulled the plug so it would STAY off ... shouldn't have to pull the plug to turn something off.

Both TV's so far have NOT replaced my 22 y/o Magnavox 20" color TV, plug it in, I press the on button, it goes on & stays on. I press the off button, it goes off until I turn it on again. LOL

In your opinion is this a Wi-Fi issue or two entirely different brand TV issues? This one's going back tomorrow.

And so many people keep telling me this technology is so great ... yah, okay. So my son will hook up my tried & true old-tube 22 y/o, 20" Magnavox TV I bought after I moved where I currently live, 23 years ago. The only problem is I watched Marty's hour on my new large screen TV and liked it, but I can watch live-stream on my computer screen, all the same to me. I have been looking forward to watching Clint Black's 30-minute talk show that follows the Saturday Night Opry & I did & his guest was Ray Benson & he was wonderful & Clint Black is a wonderful interviewer. Any thoughts on the issues, Nat?

And I TOTALLY apologize Byron, I realize this is not the forum for my TV issues - it's just that Nat brought internet issues up & I thought just maybe someone reading my TV issue may have had the same problem before I return this TV back to the store. The first thing I thought was my AT&T Wi-Fi.

    2. Nothing to apologize for!!!! I think at one time or another, we have all had our own issues.

  3. Jeanene,
I rather doubt that the off/on issues with the TVs have anything to do with internet problems. I think lots of TVs made today are junk.

Your computer should NOT be buffering under any circumstance. Do you have an Ethernet cable from your router or are you using WiFi to watch on your computer? An Ethernet cable from the router is a LOT better. WiFi can have problems, especially if you're not real close to your WiFi transmitter.
If a direct cable doesn't stop the stuttering, I would be tempted to call AT&T. They may be able to look at your set up remotely. They might even be willing to come take a look at your setup, who knows?
My problems weren't as severe as yours, but my Comcast modem was showing me all sorts of errors. When AT&T put in fiber, it all got better.
    Good luck!

  5. Thank you for your help, Nat. I'm not a huge tekkie, like many, I do my best. I keep saying I am from the Space Age, not computer age-ha!

My son shares your sentiments "most all these TV's are garbage."

To quickly answer your question, yes, I have an Ethernet wire from the back of the gateway to the back of my desktop. And my computer is in the lower level of my townhouse, so it probably is not in the best area, but it's where the phone jack is. In the last couple of months I was in contact with the AT&T help line on Twitter - they were so very helpful, in constant contact with me, making sure all was better, etc. Garnered me a fairly sizeable credit for all the internet issues I was having & they sent a technician to hook up the new gateway they sent. When he saw it, he said "no, we're swapping this out for a new one." A totally different model and it really is better than the one I had for a few years. Until AT&T improves their infrastructure to fiber, this is the best it will be for me. We have Comcast in my area, but I am constantly hearing how it goes down a lot. So who needs that?

In the meantime, my son will "reset" the TV to factory settings, which shouldn't be that hard & because I would like to exhaust every avenue before yet another TV goes the way of it's original box, when the TV doesn't stay off, I will be returning it.

They say the third time is the charm ... please pray for me AND the third TV! LOL ...

Time for Jamey Johnson! Yay! Enjoy the rest of the Tuesday Night Opry if you are listening.

  6. Jeanene,
I absolutely can not recommend Comcast. It would work every minute of every day for months, then suddenly my 'Opry recordings would quit before they were done. Constantly.
    Good luck! :)
