Mid-Week Opry Shows

This will be a very busy week at the Grand Ole Opry House as on Tuesday night, Opry member Luke Combs will celebrate his 5th anniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry and Post Malone will be making his Opry debut on Wednesday night. I have been told both shows are sold out, and frankly, I am surprised that a 2nd show was not added on either night.

Luke Combs made his Opry debut on October 29, 2016, and became an Opry member on July 16, 2019. I will be honest that I had expected more from Luke when he joined. While he generates excitement when he has been at the Opry, his appearances have been few. His last Opry appearance took place in 2022. Prior to joining the Opry, he had made 14 guest appearances, while he has appeared 10 times in the last five years since his induction. There are some who believe that he may have become an Opry member too early in his career. You can't argue with the success that Luke has had, but it would be nice if he appeared on the Opry more than a couple of times a year.

Joining Luke Combs on the Tuesday Night Opry will be Opry members Bill Anderson, Henry Cho, Riders In The Sky and Pam Tillis. Guesting are Drake Milligan and Avery Anna.

Wednesday night will be very interesting as Post Malone is making his Opry debut. To some of us, that is not a surprise as once he decided to make a country album, it was only a matter of time until he was invited to appear. The invitation came from Opry member Brad Paisley, who will be joining him on the Opry that night. The Opry's newest member (for now) Lainey Wilson is on the schedule, as is Vince Gill. Rounding out the lineup is John Michael Montgomery and The War And Treaty.

We shall see how long Post Malone sticks to his country career, but I can tell you since he debuted on the music scene a decade ago, he has had phenomenal success, sold millions of albums and won numerous awards. His concert tours have done very well, and his fall tour will take him to arenas and outdoor stadiums, including Nissan Stadium in Nashville in October. Post Malone's new album, "F-1 Trillion," features his duets with some of the biggest names in country, including Luke Combs, Blake Shelton, Morgan Wallen and Dolly Parton.

Rounding out the week on Thursday night will be Opry Country Classics. Larry Gatlin is once again the host, and the Spotlight Artist will be Opry member Ricky Skaggs. The Gatlin Brothers are set to appear as are Mandy Barnett, Rhett Akins and Shawna Thompson.

Certainly, a busy week for the Opry.

  1. Well, Post Malone is doing the Opry, and it led to Brad doing the Opry, it appears. That's a nice change.

  2. So, looks like we are celebrating someone for making 10 Opry appearances over a 5 year period. Wish we would celebrate the members that appear much more frequently the same way.

  3. For people who don’t know, Post Malone is simply put one of the biggest artists in the whole world. This is monumental for the Opry. And he’s quite talented. People went nuts over his appearance at the CMA awards last year. Again for people who only listen to country music for millennials on down, I cannot possibly emphasize enough, he is one of the absolute most successful performers in all of music today and anything he does generates a huge amount of publicity. This is one of the biggest things The Opry literally could possibly have done for itself.

    1. Agreed. His new country album coming out on Friday is loaded with big name country collaborators, including Brad and Lainey Wilson, so those will more than likely be performed on Wednesday. So excited to be attending by Tuesday and Wednesday evening shows!
While I'm looking forward to Tuesday's lineup also, as Bill Anderson and Henry Cho are the only artists on that lineup I've seen in person at the Opry before. Wednesday evening has me reliving my high school and college days with John Michael Montgomery and Vince Gill, and my favorite contemporary artist in Brad Paisley, and then throw in The War & Treaty and Lainey Wilson and Post Malone's appearance, it's going to be an amazing evening.

    2. I want to be clear that I am happy for Post Malone AND the Opry. I think it's great when the Opry has guests who are big in other fields of music or just in other fields (Kevin Costner and Steve Martin have performed there, too). But I have two other comments that are set on repeat:
      1. I want to see more members.
      2. If it takes Post Malone to get Brad Paisley to keep the promise he made to his pal The Potato and do the Opry, I'm for Post Malone being a member.

      OK, thus endeth the snark.

    3. Paisley will never be on unless it is a big event that will help him promote himself. He’s all about himself, the rest is only talk to make him look less selfish.

  4. The Opry posted today that they are going to do a livestream on Wednesday night. It appears that it will just be the final portion of the show.

Tune in as we mark a historic evening with superstar Post Malone making his Opry debut joined by fellow hit-makers and Opry stars Lainey Wilson, Brad Paisley, Vince Gill, plus John Michael Montgomery, and The War and Treaty!

  5. Post Malone getting SEVEN songs and the entire second half of the show tonight. John Michael Montgomery not on the pre show set list.

  6. I think by anybody’s metric that was a fantastic show! Byron went so far when texting me to call it. One of the top five shows in the history of the Opry and I might even have to give it top three. Again a lot of people will be snarky because they don’t listen to modern music, but, There are people who are big in other fields, and then there are people who transcend their field and are bigger than most artists will ever get in any field or genre or style of music. Post Malone is simply on another level than any other musical artist that the Opry has had on its stage in years in terms of worldwide popularity, at least at the moment. Nothing they could have ever done would have generated this kind of response. No one else they could’ve gotten except maybe taylor. I do think they should have had one legend like Bill or Connie, but the dude has an incredible amount of talent and he was so unbelievably humble and glad to be there and terrified. It was so fantastic ! By the way, this is ez. I got rid of my PC and I have to sign in on my phone eventually.

  7. I will admit that I was pleasantly surprised last night. I watched the Facebook livestream, as well as listening to the first hour, and that it was a very good show. Post Malone was very respectful of the Opry and its tradition, and he did keep it country. I certainly enjoyed the duets. I don't know if Post Malone will ever be back at the Opry, but if he does, I wouldn't be against it.

As to the Facebook stream, there were a couple of moments of delays, but nothing too terrible. As to the "pre" show, where they ended up killing more time than originally scheduled due to the first half running over on time, let's just say that I didn't think it was that great.

    1. I fully enjoyed the show from start to finish ... first, who wears a dress shirt with cuff-links on the Grand Ole Opry stage? Post Malone; and I loved his jacket too, he dressed very nicely, he was very charming and very respectful of the stage he was standing on and towards all of the artists and the Opry band he was singing with. I can't say too much about the Red Solo Cup he brought on stage, that was a staple of Toby Keith's concerts.

Whenever Vince Gill kicks off an Opry show, who's going to argue? Surely not me, he keeps it country and the audience just loves the guy and so do I?

I fully enjoyed Brad Paisley's segment, gosh he went back in time for songs to sing ... "Wrapped Around" (I don't even know when it was that I heard that song last; it is one of my very favorite Brad Paisley songs) "Mud on the Tires" and "Whiskey Lullabye" and Lainey Wilson's dueting with him was very good.

And I fully enjoyed the War and Treaty segment too.

I could tell Post was very nervous (I'm glad he kept in mind that he could not cuss, or WSM would more than likely be paying a fine to the FCC, I'm sure) but all in all I thought he did a good job showing off some of the music his fans can expect with his new country album.

Because of constant buffering, I was actually able to listen to WSM online and watch the FB Livestream at the same time. It worked. I will now go back and watch it with zero problem, who knows why that happens? Maybe high traffic.

For me, the best collaboration was Post and the War and Treaty, they did a great job together.

All in all it was a very good show, thought I am not sure how or why it is or was considered historic but I can go with it.

Enjoy tonight's Opry Country Classics show and the weekend shows and your weekend.
