The Grand Ole Opry has posted the line-ups for the shows this week. In addition to the Tuesday Night Opry, the Opry once again will be presenting a series of Wednesday night shows in September and Opry Country Classics begins its fall run this week.
Tuesday September 11
7:00: Bill Anderson; Dailey & Vincent
7:30: Eric Paslay; Charlie Daniels Band
Intermission
8:15: Kacey Musgraves; Brad Paisley; Little Big Town
A very, very strong line-up for the Tuesday night show this week. When you see names such as Little Big Town, Brad Paisley, Kacey Musgraves and Charlie Daniels listed, it almost makes you wonder why the Opry did not schedule two shows for that night. I would think they could have easily sold both out.
Wednesday September 12
7:00: Del McCoury Band; Linda Davis
7:30: Frankie Ballard; Maggie Rose
Intermission
8:15: Easton Corbin; John Conlee
8:45: Sister Hazel; Chris Janson
Certainly not as strong of a line-up as is listed for Tuesday night, but still decent with Chris Janson closing out the show.
Opry Country Classics for Thursday September 13
Host: Larry Gatlin
Spotlight Artist: Joe Nichols
Also Appearing: The Gatlin Brothers; T. Graham Brown; Brooke Eden; The Whites
Not sure what the thinking is to have Joe Nichols as the spotlight artist. Nothing against Joe, but I don't think of him in the "classic" sense and he really did not have a recording career that would qualify him as a spotlight artist. That said, I have seen Joe several times and have always enjoyed his performances.
It appears the 'Opry 'recovered the fumble' of last weekend's weak shows. Especially wish I could be there Tuesday night. Agree two shows would sell out.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see Brad Paisley make his appearance for this year!
ReplyDeleteYes, Brad's first appearance of 2018.

DeleteI agree with you on the Opry Country Classics Spotlight artist. When Joe Nichols came out with a bang he had a couple of great hits, unfortunately, record label issues of being dropped or labels going under and his like for a bit too much alcohol have not been his friend. He is again not on a record label. It's too bad because he has a stellar singing voice and sings great songs. I am happy that he will be on the Opry and let's just see what classics he will be singing - he just might surprise some, but not me, I think he has the type of voice for more classic country songs than what is being passed off AS country music today.
And as far as Brad Paisley, it will most likely be his only Opry appearance this year; that's too bad, I have been a fan, met him on an Opry cruise back in 2004, he was great to chat with, autographs, all that stuff, not sure why he, like many Opry members, he doesn't feel the need to get to the stage that he so brags to love so much; one would think he would plant himself in front of a mic a few times a year.
Tomorrow night's Opry show looks to be a very good one as well; Chris Janson closing the show out is always a very good thing.
But tonight's Opry show is about as strong a line-up than I've seen in a while and I agree, not sure why it is not a two-show night, maybe some artists couldn't stick around for a second show, maybe they are heading out on that bus for another weekend of shows.
Again, I think Sally Williams is doing a fabulous job of taking the Opry where it needs to really go.
Here's to ALL the great music we are about to hear this week - Tues, Wed, Thur, Fri, and Saturday Opry shows ... okay, it all works for me!!! :-)

I get the comments on Joe Nichols, but he does have a more traditional voice as mentioned by Jeanene. It also is a recent trend in the Opry Country Classics as some other modern artists have been featured. Specifically I remember Craig Morgan a few months ago, and possibly Mark Wills or Darryl Worrley (don't quote me on those though).
ReplyDeleteOn Opry.com is the Opry Country Classics as a three hour show listet, not two hours as before... Hope that's true! :-)
ReplyDeleteI am not sure. I haven't seen anything announced.
DeleteOpry.com changed it. They now have it posted 7:00PM - 9:00PM Bob
DeleteSurprise visit from Lee Greenwood to sing God Bless the USA during Dailey & Vincent's segment.
ReplyDeleteBrad Paisley brought out Bonnie Hunt who raved about the Opry and the Venue.
Strong show as nearly each artist remembered 9/11 in some way.
What "musical element" is missing from the following description describing the band appearing on the Grand Ole 'Opry at 8:45 Wednesday night?
ReplyDelete"Sister Hazel is an American alternative rock band from Gainesville, Florida, whose style also blends elements of jangle pop, folk rock, classic rock 'n' roll and southern rock."
