Tuesday Night Opry June 8

Some nights at the Opry are better then others. The upcoming Tuesday Night Opry is one of those as the line-up is very good, led by Grand Ole Opry member Carrie Underwood. Despite the fact that this will be Carrie's first Opry appearance of 2021, she has been a very good Opry member, generally fulfilling her commitment of 10 shows each year. She has set the standard for her fellow contemporary Opry members.

Joining Carrie will be the Opry's newest member, Rhonda Vincent, who continues to show why she should have been an Opry member years ago. Her support of the Opry has been outstanding since becoming a member. Also appearing will be legendary Opry members Jeannie Seely and John Conlee. While Jeannie has led everyone in Opry appearances in 2021, it is nice to see John back in the Opry rotation.

Guesting will be "Voice" winner Jake Hoot, along with Country Music Hall of Fame member Don Schlitz, comedian and Opry regular Henry Cho, and Lauren Alaina.

7:00: John Conlee; Jake Hoot
7:30: Jeannie Seely; Lauren Alaina
8:00: Henry Cho; Rhonda Vincent
8:30: Don Schlitz; Carrie Underwood

Overall, a nice Tuesday night show.

  1. WHAT A SHOW!
Saturday Night shows are generally pretty lame in my mind, especially the TV broadcast hour.
But this is a solid 'Opry show.

  3. Rhonda has Opry appearances in her schedule that comes out in her fan letter. I'm sure she'll be there more than listed if possible!

  4. Looked into tickets for Tuesday's show. Only a handful that weren't handicapped or handicapped helper seats left last night, but several available at inflated prices on other websites. No wonder the 'Opry charges so much. They can get it!

  5. Nat: Are you saying that most of the seats are handicapped? Bob

    1. No, just that the very few seats remaining are FOR THE USE OF handicapped folks and their friends.
      Not real clear, huh? :)

  6. That was a fantastic show! Girlfriend came home right as Carrie started so I missed that, but it was my first time hearing Mrs. vincent and OH MAN! WHAT! A! TALENT! I'll be honest, I believe since so many have asked, the reason she was not made a member years ago is simple enough. Nobody in the general public who listens to country radio has ever heard of her. Her brother is much more well known but, she is much more talented! I'll listen to her much more often from now on!
I think Don needs to be made a member asap, but as he did tonight, he needs to remind folks every single time that he in fact wrote those songs. Tons of writers are not real singers, even Bill will never say he's a fantastic vocalist but, when people figure out who these guys are and what they gave us, the respect is amazing! On the sad day Whisper leaves us for Heaven, Don could and should totally become the singer song writer on the Opry! Henry also could be asked! He's very funny and we haven't had a comedian member in a long time.
As I did last week I'm curious! From our elder statesmen like Jim and Dashmann, what do you think of Mrs. Underwood? E. Z.

    1. E.Z., this one I have to disagree with you on. Rhonda Vincent was headlining bluegrass festivals and was the #1 female bluegrass performer long before Dailey & Vincent came along. While Rhonda was having hit after hit on the bluegrass chart, Jamie Dailey was still singing lead for Doyle Lawson and Darrin Vincent was still strumming for Ricky Skaggs.

To say that "nobody in the general public who listens to country radio has ever heard of her" might be somewhat correct when speaking of today's country radio (some of those listening to country radio today probably have no idea who Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette or Porter Wagoner are), but Opry membership is much more than country radio. The Opry includes bluegrass, comedy, instrumental, etc., with bluegrass at the foundation in regards to how the Opry started.

As to Rhonda's delay in Opry membership, the speculation has been that her association with former longtime Opry sponsor Martha White had much to do with that. For years, Martha White sponsored Rhonda while she was on tour and heavily promoted her. There are many who believe that was the primary reason why Rhonda was not made an Opry member much earlier.

    2. Byron when you put it that way, I totally agree! And of course the opry has always featured blue grass. I confess though like a majority of the general public, I don't ever follow its chart. haha I went with her brother being more well known because very VERY quickly after they formed they were on tour with Bill Gaither which as you know is kind of instant fame. Then the tv show or Cracker Barrel etc. I'd just heard more about them out and about. I did not know Martha White still existed! That's soooo cool and like I said, she should've been a member forever ago just based on talent. E. Z.

    3. E.Z., you are correct about Dailey & Vincent. When they first got together, they hit it big very, very fast. Their TV show is excellent and I know they are very, very popular.

  7. I met Rhonda after her show in Spartanburg, South Carolina recently.
The Rhonda you see on stage is the Rhonda you meet in person. Energetic, passionate about country music, and a NICE person!
She is a close personal friend of Jeannie Seely, and that goes a long way with me.
I suspect Byron has it right, but the 'Opry has missed out on many YEARS of great entertainment by a fantastic bluegrass/country music entertainer.
