  1. The Earls of Leicester would be a wonderful addition to the Opry if they were all willing. Admittedly, one of their big numbers would have to be in dry dock unless the Opry squared away a sponsorship.:) Or they could compete with Rhonda to sing the Martha White theme.

  2. Two great line-ups again & will be listening in to both. Jamey Johnson appears last again, YAY! Hope he gets to sing FOUR songs, I'm up for newer members to sing four songs. And the newest member, Charlie McCoy, tomorrow night, oh I'm liking these brand new Opry members, they are proving that they will show up. Rhonda Vincent is so thrilled to be a member, I'm thinking she could camp out at the Opryland Hotel to appear every night there's an Opry show! I wish she could! I really dig her, so comfortable on stage, has a lot to say & has a great, great voice & she & The Rage perform great songs, love her bluegrass but she can sing stone cold country. And closing out Wednesday's show, the Isaacs, just love this family of singers, outstanding family harmonies. Looking forward to hearing the Earls of Leicester again, I really enjoy their music. Enjoy the shows everyone.

    1. I wish to second Jeanene's thoughts.
Couldn't agree more with every word she said.

    2. Good morning and thank you for the nice words, Nat.

In my opinion, Opry management is doing an excellent job of bringing in new Opry members that want to be there, that's how I see it and I'm looking forward to the official Induction date for Don Schlitz, who I really like. I'm confused though, he is invited to become a member, no Induction date, but he is still guesting. He adds depth to every performance because he comes from a whole different perspective, that of a songwriter, I don't know that he ever went on tour, well wait, what am I saying .. haha! He never needed to go past his mailbox, thanks to his very well written songs, Kenny Rogers and Randy Travis, so probably not but he could have, I don't know that. They are always describing it as "mailbox money." I am happy for all of them how they earn their living and it truly is a gypsy-like lifestyle. I do take into account they all have to make more than enough to pay their bands, to haul everyone & everything around this country & then internationally and now the out in the stratosphere gas prices, and then have enough for themselves but I would think they could find a handful of nights out of the year to tell the Opry "count me/us in" so it appears the Opry went in another direction, so kudo's to Dan Rogers, if that is the case. I wouldn't mind seeing Billy Dean & Tracy Lawrence become members at some point. Hearing Billy Dean last week, still has that great, great voice. I would like to hear Tracy Lawrence again, it's been a while and Tracy Byrd, another great voice, have always held the opinion that he has a "Marty Robbins" type voice, just real smooth.

GREAT Opry show last night and I got my wish, Jamey Johnson sang four songs, they just weren't four in a row. I really enjoyed his teaming up with Wade Bowen. Love those Opry moments. Anytime the Opry wants to have him close out the shows, no problem here, he seems very well received by the audiences from what I hear after he is done with the songs he is going to perform AND Lorrie Morgan sang Are You Lonesome Tonight, she and her band did Elvis proud, outstanding performance. Hearing all of her "back-up singers" on that song reminds me of all the songs from way back that we heard that "sound" that we rarely ever hear anymore. Great job, Lorrie!

Have a nice day and enjoy tonight's show ...oh the Isaacs, love them and love they are members as well. Those family harmonies, still missing The Whites.

    3. I'd agree that Dan Rogers has done a great job on new members (Sally Williams got off to a decent start, it seems to me). I'm wondering if the Opry will maintain this format. We all got used to the segments of 15 or 30 minutes, sponsor, host, etc. We tend to forget that it was originally, as Charles Wolfe's book title said, "a good-natured riot" until Vito brought order out of chaos. But even then, announcers used to do more introductions and play a bigger role in the segment--Marty Robbins would let the announcer introduce guests, and Bill Monroe never got into the idea of cuing a commercial, it seemed.

As long as they keep bringing in the people they're bringing in, we should be all right.

And Jeanene, the mailbox money reminds me of Mr. Monroe saying of Elvis's recording of his biggie, "Those were powerful royalty checks."
